By placing a violent mafia boss inside a vulnerable place of psychiatric therapy, the show explored relevant modern themes such as depression, loneliness, family trauma, toxic masculinity, therapy, violence, and the malaise of urban life. By dissecting the mental science of Tony Soprano, this study explains how the concept of the “Anti-hero” was revolutionized for the modern cinematic medium by the drama.
