AI Policy

IJILRS recognizes the growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research and scholarly publishing. Authors may use AI tools responsibly to support their research and manuscript preparation, provided that their use does not compromise the accuracy, originality, transparency, integrity, or ethical standards of scholarly publishing.

1. Permitted Use of AI

Authors may use AI-assisted tools for purposes such as:

  • Improving grammar, spelling, language, and readability.
  • Assisting with translation or language refinement.
  • Organizing ideas or improving the structure of a manuscript.
  • Supporting coding, data processing, or other technical tasks, where appropriate.
  • Assisting with literature exploration or other research-related activities, provided that all information is independently verified.

The use of AI must remain under the direct responsibility and supervision of the authors.

2. AI-Generated Content

Authors must carefully verify any AI-generated or AI-assisted content before submission. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript:

  • Contains accurate and verifiable information.
  • Does not contain fabricated references, data, quotations, or findings.
  • Properly acknowledges the work of other researchers.
  • Does not infringe copyright or other intellectual property rights.
  • Meets the journal's requirements for originality and academic integrity.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors, as authorship requires human accountability and responsibility for the work.

3. Disclosure of AI Use

Authors should disclose the use of AI or AI-assisted technologies when such tools have made a substantive contribution to the preparation, analysis, generation, or presentation of the manuscript.

The disclosure should identify:

  • The AI tool or system used.
  • The purpose for which it was used.
  • Where appropriate, the extent or section of the manuscript affected.

Routine use of AI tools solely for basic spelling, grammar, or formatting corrections generally does not require disclosure, unless otherwise specified by the journal.

4. Research Data and Confidentiality

Authors must not upload confidential, personal, proprietary, unpublished, or otherwise sensitive research data or manuscript materials to AI systems unless they have appropriate authorization and adequate safeguards are in place.

Authors remain responsible for complying with applicable privacy, confidentiality, research ethics, and data-protection requirements.

5. Originality and Academic Integrity

The use of AI does not exempt authors from the journal's requirements concerning:

  • Plagiarism
  • Duplicate or redundant publication
  • Fabrication or falsification of data
  • Copyright infringement
  • Appropriate citation and attribution
  • Research and publication ethics

Authors are fully responsible for the originality, integrity, and accuracy of their submitted manuscripts.

6. AI and References

Authors should independently verify all references, citations, quotations, factual claims, and bibliographic information generated or suggested by AI tools. AI-generated references must not be included without verification, as AI systems may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or nonexistent citations.

7. Author Responsibility

The use of AI does not transfer responsibility for a manuscript to the AI system or its developer. The authors remain fully responsible for the content, conclusions, interpretations, citations, and integrity of their work.

Failure to appropriately disclose substantive AI use, or the use of AI in a manner that results in fabrication, plagiarism, copyright infringement, or other ethical violations, may result in editorial action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.

This policy may be updated periodically to reflect developments in AI technology, scholarly publishing standards, and applicable ethical guidelines.
